Call it what you will.

As many of you know I am joining the Army. Just waiting to hear back on a medical issue. A lot of people ask why go back in the military. Or even better, why do you want to do infantry or be a combat engineer? It is just not the infantry I want to be in. I want to be a Ranger or a Sapper. The best men the Army has to offer. Even tho my first choice. and always will be is SpecOps. I have been thinking about this a lot lately because of some stuff my wife has said. Mainly, "Why do you have a hero complex?" I was thinking about what she said and I do not think it is a "hero complex." I believe it is the warrior side of me trying to find a way to get out. I feel like it has been screaming at me. When I talked about joining the police department it was never. "I want to be a cop." but "I want to work in undercover narcotics." Why settle for less when you can do so much more with your life? This stuff still weighs heavy on my mind. It gives me a lot to think about. But I know I am making the right choice. Personally I feel that joining is the right thing to do on many levels.

Marcus,

Understanding your self and what drives you is very important. Often being able to express that to others is not possible. You have to be able to balance that on your own, which can often be difficult. Ultimately, it comes down to making the decision that is best for everyone. However, what others do not and cannot consider is the part of the decision that is best for you must feed the warrior inside of you. Too often that balance is set aside to avoid conflict and create peace externally, though it creates a "war" internally. Find your inner peace that can create a level of external peace and all will work out. Ignore your inner peace and it will destroy you. Like me, your inner peace relies on feeding the warrior inside you. You must not ignore it, but you must not let it consume you. Good luck. By the way, I support your decision and understand your decision.

Fellow warrior brother,

Eric
